Last April 2019, I had the opportunity to visit Jaipur and Agra to discover new sustainable manufacturers and work on my first jewelry collection Alpenglow. India is full of places to explore, whether you are craving an adventure, needing to hit the reset button or just looking to immerse yourself in a different culture. Although I was there to spend time with my manufacturers, it’s safe to say I also managed to make the most of the trip and visit some places in Rajasthan and north of India!
I based myself in Jaipur, the capital of the arid Rajasthan state with its unique customs and cultures, an hour away in plane from Agra, which was once the capital of India and is located on the lush plains that surround the Yamuna River. Jaipur, also known as the Pink City; since every building within the walled historic centre is painted a terracotta “pink” color, is full of palaces, temples and colorful artisan markets. While everything in Jaipur is pretty low-key, I was spoilt for choice on where to watch the best Indian sunsets; always accompanied with cold drinks and great food.
These are my top picks to learn, enjoy, wonder, experience and get adventurous in Jaipur and Agra.
BEST FOR: Visiting your first day in Jaipur, since you'll learn so much about this city's rich history.
BEST FOR: Elephant Riding.
BEST FOR: Its alluring Rajasthani products including textiles, handicrafts, brass works and precious stones. The vivacious market is most famous for Mojari; the footwear made from camel skin.
BEST KNOWN FOR: The Taj Mahal is considered to be the greatest architectural achievement in the whole range of Indo-Islamic architecture.
WHY VISIT? It is considered one of the oldest Wonders in the world, and believe me when I say, pictures don't make it justice.
